Love as we know it is a series celebrating real stories from our AAPI community – where culture, connection, and shared experiences shape real relationships.

Tim and Ashley come from Irish American and Chinese American backgrounds.

“In Chinese culture, we celebrate the Tomb-Sweeping Festival,” says Ashley. “Even though my family isn’t religiously Buddhist, we continue it as a family tradition – and to honor my grandmother, who was Buddhist. My husband, Tim, grew up Catholic but has fully embraced our culture and traditions. He helps us prepare and participate, and more importantly, he shows his support for me and my family.”

Ashley recently taught Tim how to make dumplings, a technique she learned from her mom and grandmother. “My technique is definitely getting better!” Tim says.

The couple’s advice for other AAPI singles looking for love: “Find someone you can be your authentic self with – someone who’s open to and understanding of what’s important to you, whether that’s family, culture, or traditions. And of course, someone who likes your cooking!”
